So, you have decided to take your children on vacation. Everything is packed, your children are dressed, and you have your airline tickets in hand, but do you have a quality travel insurance plan? If you have children and you are traveling with them, travel insurance is not something you can do without!
Every parent knows that both illnesses and injuries frequently arise when children are anywhere in the nearby vicinity. Kids are, after all, just kids and it is not uncommon for them to be perfectly healthy one minute and utterly ill the next. It is also not uncommon for children to incur various injuries, even while they play. Therefore, even when parents and children travel together, parents need to be prepared for such emergencies.
Suppose you and your children take a trip to some foreign country. You have invested quite a bit of money in the trip, especially to bring the entire family along and suddenly your child accidentally slips in the lobby of the hotel you are staying in and breaks their arm? You rush your child to the hospital only to find that your health insurance, that would normally cover you if you were home, does not cover you or your family while you are abroad. Guess what, there goes your petty cash for souvenirs!
Alternatively, if you had purchased travel insurance before hand, you could have saved your self some significant hassles. Instead of having to spend all of your cash on your child’s cast, or having to max out every one of your credit cards, you could have purchased travel insurance for such occasions that would have covered you and your family while you traveled.
Now picture this, you take you and your entire family to a foreign country. Every one is having a splendid time, yet suddenly one of your children falls seriously or dangerously ill. You have just spent thousands of dollars on a family vacation and now you will have to cut your trip short and return home so that your child can be treated. Even worse is the fact that your investment is non-refundable. Now what?
Had you purchased trip cancellation insurance prior to the commencement of your trip, you may have been able to be refunded a substantial chuck of your money. Trip cancellation insurance protects you in the event that unexpected events arise that may cause you to cancel your trip early and certainly, your child’s grave illness would have been covered.
How about this; imagine you are in the airport on the way home from your trip. You have recently landed and discover that your luggage is lost and a good portion of your child’s clothing is missing. Now you will be forced to go out and purchase an assortment of new clothes for your child and guess what—because you did not invest in travel insurance, you are out the money!
Travel insurance can help you cover the loss of your luggage. You can be reimbursed for losses due to negligence or theft if you purchase adequate travel insurance. Nevertheless, in the above mentioned example, you would be out perhaps hundreds of dollars in the event that your luggage turned up missing—certainly no expense a parent likes to endure!
Parents should invest in travel insurance and travel health insurance, especially when they bring their children along with them while they travel. Travel insurance can help parents afford those unexpected circumstances that will arise and in turn can help protect their children. Further, as parents you already experience enough of the unexpected—therefore travel insurance is truly a wise idea.
